History

Bagahi Math (also known as Bagahi Dham) was established by Baba Tapasvi Narayan Das at Bagahi village, near Ranjitpur in Sitamarhi district. The present Mahant is Baba Sukhdev Ji Maharaj. The shrine has been a centre of spiritual learning and devotion in the Mithila region for over a century.

Architecture

The Bagahi Math complex showcases traditional Maithil brick architecture: curved roofs, intricate lattice work, and a peaceful tulsi courtyard. As the first Shiva Panchayatan Mandir in North Bihar, it follows the Panchayatan style — a central Shiva linga surrounded by four subsidiary shrines at the corners. The compound includes prayer halls, monks' quarters, and open spaces for yajnas.
